Pediatric Hospital of Kimbondo

The Pediatric Foundation of Kimbondo is in the Democratic Republic of Congo, 18 miles from the capital Kinshasa, in the suburb called Mont Ngafula. It was created in 1989 by Laura Perna, retired university teacher, and Padre Hugo Rios, from the missionary Community of Clarettiani. 

The Pediatric Hospital “welcomes all the children that are sick, abandoned, orphans, without food or a house, to assure them medical assistance and an education: the target is the health and social development of every Kid.”

 

At first Padre Hugo and Laura Perna started, with limited funds, opening a small free pharmacy and giving food to the children and families that would ask for help. This wasn’t enough for the kids, they were sick and hungry and needed more care. Trying to overcome the difficulties and through donations from friends or small associations Padre Hugo and Dr. Laura Perna transformed the little pharmacy in a small hospital and they started to build houses for the orphans and the abandoned children. With time the Hospital has increased the area and the services offered.

The Hospital

Every month around 1300 children, most of them accompanied by their parents, arrive to the Hospital of Kimbondo (or Mama Koko Hospital) looking for help.

Shelters 

The Hospital has at least 500 kids that live in shelter houses because they won’t be able to survive outside of these structures. Even though the enormous difficulties to find a place for everyone, the Pediatric Hospital of Kimbondo welcome everyone, they never say NO.....

Saint Claret School

The Pediatric hospital foundation also has a school, called Sait Claret College, that allows the little guests of the Hospital and the poor children of the area of Mont ‘Ngafula, to attend school for free from daycare to high school level....

Agricultural Area

The Pediatric Foundation for Kimbondo motto is to welcome everyone without discrimination.

To assure to every single children in the hospital food and shelter the FPK bought in 2010 an agricultural area around 150 Km (93 miles) from Kinshasa, and has created an agricultural site called...
